There’s more to the history of Hakrim Dabang than being that cafe where Professor Do and his friend Attorney Jang played a round of janggi or Korean chess. Opened in 1956, Hakrim Dabang is one of the oldest operational coffee shops in Seoul that holds much importance to students, who would spend hours and hours in its cozy confines during its early days to discuss and debate on various topics and issues during its heyday. The cafe also served as their meeting place during the democratic movement back in the ‘80s.
