On the fifteenth and last day of the Lunar New Year celebrations, also known as Chap Goh Mei or Chinese Valentine’s Day, you might spot young single women in Malaysia throwing tangerines into a body of water (usually, a river). No, they’re not feeding some strange orange-eating fish. They’re just trying to put an end to their solo days, while hoping that a good single guy would scoop up the fruit they threw. After all, those tangerines have been carved with the throwers’ contact details.
