Many believe the winding alleyways and stairways of Jiufen old street was the inspiration for the depicted anime town in Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Despite Miyazaki’s insistence that it isn’t the case, the sights and vibe of this olden mining town — now transformed into a festive maze of quaint shops and food stalls, dishes the feeling of well — being spirited away to another fascinating realm.
