WindowSeat.ph Submission Guidelines

WindowSeat.ph is a digital publication that delivers information that will enhance today’s travel experiences. Our mission is to inspire Filipinos to become travel-passionates.
SUBMISSION
Please send via email to editor@windowseat.ph. Due to volume of submissions, not all messages may be replied to.
File Format. All contributions should be submitted in MS Word format, single-spaced in 11-point sans serif font.
Hyperlink Sources. Links to sources are highly encouraged, preferably hyperlinked to the specific word/phrase and not typed out as a URL with the text.
Approval. All submissions are subject to fact-checking, editing and approval.
Author Bio and Photo. All first-time submissions must include a 100-word bio about and a 500-pixel portrait of the contributor.
SECTIONS
Contributions can cover a wide variety of travel-related topics. WindowSeat.ph has five main sections and 25 sub-sections.

FORMATS
Guide. 300 to 500 words about a destination or an activity with a sample itinerary and budget. Should include How-To-Go and What-To-Do subheadings and obscure/secret/pro tips.
Photo essay. Must contain a short intro about the destination or activity, eight to 15 photos (preferably in landscape orientation) depicting out-of-the-usual scenarios or scenery with 20- to 75-word captions for each.
List. Each list must have a two- to three-sentence intro with a minimum of five items, each with a 20- to 100-word description.
Personal experience/essay. While this format takes a more personal approach, the focus should be on the relatability of the experience of the writer to the reader. The essay must present points for engagement and discussion, but, to keep up with web readers’ short attention spans, a piece can only be up to 600 words.
TOPICS and ANGLES
Articles can be angled based on a time period (e.g. 72 Hours in Bali: A Backpacker’s Guide, Calaguas Island: Then and Now); a budget (e.g. Your Parisian Dream for PhP75,000); or, a feature or activity that’s unique to the destination (e.g. A DIY Martial Arts Pilgrimage to Brazil).
STYLE GUIDE
Spelling and Grammar. US English spelling (e.g. traveling, not travelling). Follow Associated Press (AP) style of writing.
Word Count. Average word count is 500 words. Please avoid long introductions and long summaries or concluding statements.
WHY: Majority of the site’s readers arrive through a mobile device (tablet or smartphone). They are pressed for time and want their information/entertainment is easy-to-digest lengths.
Currency. Use destination’s three-letter country code format (e.g. PHP2,000, THB350 or AUD10).
Expletives. There should be no use of expletives.
Photos, Videos, Illustrations or Animated GIFs. Each image must be at least 900 pixels wide. Photos and illustrations must be in raw, high resolution format. All images will be credited to their owners but WindowSeat.ph reserves the right to edit when necessary.
TONE and MANNER
Articles must focus on the Pinoy POV. Contributors are encouraged to reach the readers in a casual and friendly tone while maintaining a level of authority.
While the site is after unique personal experiences, WindowSeat.ph aims to offer useful, relatable and shareable guides to readers. Contributors must, as much as possible, veer away from writing introspective, first-person narratives. The subject and focus of each piece should always be the destination or activity.
RESPONDING TO READER COMMENTS
Contributors are encouraged to reply to comments to provide more information or tips to readers, but are discouraged to respond to trolls/commenters who attack the integrity of the contribution, author or the site.
PROMOTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Contributors are free to promote their list after it’s published on WindowSeat.ph. To protect a contributor’s idea, WindowSeat.ph prohibits writers from posting “teasers” about the pieces they are working on or have already submitted (but have not yet been published).
