Penang’s George Town is quite far from being first in mind when vacationers think of visiting Malaysia. But for those who appreciate a healthy dose of Asian culture and fine displays of grandeur, then it’s a must-see.
Located along Leith Street, the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is one of those cultural showcases that should not be missed. Also known as the “Blue Mansion” for the unique indigo hue of its outer walls, the conservation efforts on the structure has caught the eye of UNESCO, prompting it to give the residence the “Most Excellent Heritage Conservation Award.” And why not? This work of art has seen it through a couple of centuries, and is still in pristine condition! Since this was really near Eastern and Oriental Hotel, we made it a point to see it.
