Fun fact: Back in 2009, the first Chinese restaurant ever awarded with a Michelin star was from Hong Kong — The Four Seasons’ Lung King Heen. For those who don’t know, earning a Michelin star is essentially being recognized by culinary experts as one of the best in your field. And it’s only natural for foodies all over the world to yearn for Michelin-starred dining experiences. For decades, that desire also meant spending almost a fortune for a meal. Boo.

Fast forward to 2016 — a monumental year for Hong Kong’s dining scene — where the Michelin guide took a drastic turn by including phenomenal street food as well.
