Yesterday, you might’ve been busy celebrating Father’s Day with your family, but did you know that a celestial phenomenon was also happening on this same special day? On Sunday, June 21, 2020, which also happened to be the summer solstice or the longest day of the year, an annular solar eclipse occurred, showing what seemed to be a ring of fire in the sky.
This celestial event happens when the moon, while farthest from the earth, passes between the earth and the sun and leaves a thin solar disc visible while effectively blocking the rest of the sun, creating the illusion of a “ring of fire.”
Of course, while most of the world were celebrating Father’s Day, some were awaiting the solar eclipse to pass over their skies. Check out these shots taken by stargazers all over the world.
