Amid this continuous spike in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, Caloocan-based Gubat sa Ciudad Resort continued its operation, prompting its shut down on May 9 by Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan.
The weather isn’t going to get cooler any time soon and Filipinos are looking for more ways to cool off in this heat. Usually, this would be the time where families would visit resorts and beaches but current government protocols prohibit us from doing so.

No, these photos weren’t taken before the pandemic. On Sunday afternoon, photos of a resort, Gubat sa Ciudad in Barangay Bagumbong, Caloocan, went viral where a crowded public pool can be seen. NCR Plus MECQ has been extended until May 14, prohibiting establishments like resorts to operate. The city’s mayor then ordered for the closure of the resort and suspension of its business license to operate.
As of writing, Caloocan City currently has 28,206 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,374 of which are active cases.
Are resorts allowed to operate under MECQ?
No. Resorts are only allowed operation in areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and Modified GCQ. Other establishments prohibited to operate under MECQ include cinemas, internet cafes, gyms, museums, and tourist attractions.
IATF Resolution No. 113 has allowed indoor dine-in services again at an initial venue or seating capacity of 10%. Beauty salons, beauty parlors, barbershops, and nail spas that were previously prohibited can resume operations again at a 30% seating capacity.
As of May 9, 2021, the Philippines have recorded 1,101,990 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 61,294 active cases and 18,472 deaths.
