With several areas across different regions placed under Alert Level 1 until April 15, many Pinoys are looking into making plans just in time for the Holy Week. After two years of limited capacity in establishments, families can finally continue Lenten traditions again: from doing Visita Iglesia and visiting pilgrimages to going on out-of-town trips. If you don’t have anything planned for the Holy Week holidays yet, try going for an outdoor adventure and discover the beauty that Mt. Makiling offers:

Make It Makiling 2022

In partnership with the government of Los Baños, Laguna, and Sto. Tomas, Batangas, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems is spearheading Make It Makiling 2022, a program for the Lenten season that will allow visitors to get a glimpse of Mt. Makiling’s breathtaking views.

From April 10-17, the mountain will be open to a limited number of 200 hikers per day. However, there are limitations to the activity: only the Sipit Trail to Lambingan Station will be open and traversing is not allowed.

Are walk-ins allowed?

Walk-ins are not allowed. Due to the new normal protocols, only registered hikers will be allowed entry during the said dates. Hikers are also to undergo visitor briefing and take the Leave No Trace Quiz.

What is the Leave No Trace Quiz?

The Leave No Trace program is an initiative by the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems. It comprises slides and videos where hikers can learn how to be responsible visitors of Mount Makiling. For MIM 2022, hikers are to take a quiz; passers can take the express lane at Mariang Makiling Station 1.

Where can we start the hike?

Mt. Makiling is located in between two provinces: Laguna and Batangas. Hikers may begin at two entry points: Mariang Makiling Trail through the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna, and Sipit Trail through the EcoPark located at Sto. Tomas, Batangas. You may download the trail location map of each entry point here.
