Visitors will get to enjoy plenty of exhibitions — both permanent and temporary — with the goal of giving them an experiential journey through the history of cinema. “The Academy Museum will be a hub for film lovers where people from across the city and around the world can enjoy, learn, and engage with movies and moviemakers,” said Academy Museum Director Kerry Brougher.

Temporary exhibits will include retrospectives of major filmmakers, starting with award-winning Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki presented in collaboration with Studio Ghibli. Pegged as the biggest showcase of his work in the U.S., this exhibit will feature 200 concept sketches, character designs, storyboards, backgrounds, film clips, and immersive environments of all his iconic works.

The Museum will also host an exhibition by Tokyo-based interdisciplinary art collective teamLab which is behind the widely visited Borderless and Planets museums in Tokyo, Japan.
