Located along Bangui Bay in Burgos, the famed Kapurpurawan Rock Formation of Northern Ilocos is another site that wouldn’t look out of place in a fantasy film. “Kapurpurawan” is an Ilocano word that literally translates to “white,” which describes the natural white sandstone formation carved by sea and wind.

From afar, the main rock looks like a massive pirate’s ship turned to stone near the sea. Developments have been put in place to cater to tourists, including horseback rides, concrete stairs, and walkways leading down from the vehicle jump-off since I first visited, but Kapurpurawan remains an awe-inspiring sight that never fails to amaze tourists.
