Mount Takao, Hachiōji-ku, Tokyo
Having this classic Japanese dessert is comforting after a cold mountain trek or during the autumn to winter seasons. Dango are skewered Japanese rice cakes grilled by an open fire like marshmallows and doused with sweet topping. They come in a very wide variety of flavors, but the famous dango stall in Mount Takao in western Tokyo serves Sanpuku Dango covered with sweet miso or soy sauce — a joy to eat while taking in the breathtaking views from the summit.
