Time to hit the road and head to the north to catch some waves, enjoy good food, and have a great time. Through the years, La Union developed in a thriving surf community, one that’s easily accessible to Manila and weekend travelers. If surfing is not your cup of tea, don’t worry, as La Union also has a refreshing waterfall nearby, museums, and can also be a jump-off point for longer road trips to Baguio or Ilocos.

Sagada

Perfect for: Mountain lovers

Be surrounded by nature and embrace the cold on top of the idyllic Sagada. Many people may associate it from that iconic scene from That Thing Called Tadhana, but there is more to this place than screaming by the cliff. From good coffee, amazing people, and scenery like no other, Sagada is just the perfect place to pause from all the heartache.

Siargao

Perfect for: An island getaway

Ahh, El Nido, that award-winning island, plastered in many magazines all over the world. Many people think that it’s overrated, but with its beaches’ powder-like sands and clear turquoise waters, you just can’t blame travelers from coming back to this heaven. The island has been developed well, with hostels, restaurants, bars, and other establishments opening up, but despite its busy looking center, the islands are still unbeatable. As they say, nothing cures a heartbreak better than saltwater. I suppose it’s high time to try that out.

Batanes

Perfect for: soul searching

Batanes is always said to be out of this world, and it’s true: walking in the rolling hills of Marlboro, breathing in the fresh air as you look to the vast seas by the lighthouse, this place just transports you and cleanses you. If this is a part of your bucket list, then it’s time to book that flight and take the leap. Let yourself heal and transform in this serene island, far off from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Change is always a part of life, and no matter what they say, some things are just not easy. Take your time to heal, and maybe see the other side of yourself, too, as you explore new places and meet new faces. As they say, “love will find its way”.
