Prestigious travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) has named various Philippine islands as part of its Top Islands in Asia 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards. The Philippines occupies four slots out of 10 making us the only country with the most number of entries in the ranking. The Department of Tourism (DOT) shared the good news by posting on Facebook.
Cebu ranked first. “Cebu draws nearly 2 million travelers annually for its pristine beaches and diving off the island’s northern coast,” CNT shared.
Palawan and Siargao ranked fourth and fifth respectively with CNT even describing Palawan as a “regular on [their] list of the world’s best islands.” Boracay ranked sixth, earning a separate entry even though it’s part of the Visayan islands.

“This latest citation from CNT gives us in the Department of Tourism (DOT) a boost of confidence, as we continuously carry out our strategies to gradually reopen domestic tourism, to once again welcome travelers from other countries when things become better,” says Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat via DOT’s Facebook post.

In last year’s CNT list the Philippines only bagged three spots in the Top 10 islands. Boracay was the first, Cebu and Visayas as the second, and Palawan was the fourth.
CNT’s 33rd Reader’s Choice Awards is quite special since it was made at a time when almost no one is traveling.
“So the names in this year’s edition are the ones that brought you comfort, that you still connected with long afterward, that got you through the months without travel,” shared CNT.
For the Best Islands in the World Reader’s Choice Category, there were 600,000 registered voters who chose according to six regions: Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific, Africa & Indian Ocean, Caribbean and the Atlantic, Europe, and North America.
Puyat assures Filipinos that as the country’s reputation as a tourism destination continues to rise, DOT will continue to advocate sustainable and responsible tourism.
