You’d think that the stars have fallen onto the shores of these bioluminescent bays but these sparkling aqua lights are very much real. These lights are caused by single-celled microorganisms called dinoflagellates that glow once disturbed usually by the ebb and flow of water. There are only five bioluminescent bays in the world, three of which can be found in Puerto Rico, and the most famous of them all is the one in Mosquito Bay, located on the island of Vieques.
