Try something new this year.
by | February 17, 2023

After a week of work, we all have different ways of recharging. Some enjoy doing the week’s groceries while others love embracing the couch potato life and catching up on new shows. Others love to try out something new, whether it’s a restaurant or an activity. If this is your type of recharging, gather your friends and invite them to do these activities for the next weekend. Who knows, you might discover your barkada’s new favorite bonding activity!

Here’s to the lovers of the sun and sea. Sure, hanging out by the sea and tanning will hit the spot, but if you’re also looking into picking up a new skill, try freediving. It’s an extreme sport, yes, but the experience will be rewarding once you get the hang of it. There are plenty of freediving spots in Mabini, Batangas offering a day’s worth of lessons or weekend packages. You don’t even have to be a good swimmer to pick up freediving.

Want to experience riding a 4×4 vehicle, trekking, and being rewarded with a magnificent view after all the workout? Mt. Pinatubo is one of the country’s most popular hiking spots and it’s beginner-friendly too. You can find joiner tours online (Facebook groups and pages) where you’ll have a meet-up place somewhere in the metro and start the day’s journey. Dress up in proper gear, wear sunscreen, bring lots of water, and take lots of photos!

Take a bamboo bike tour around Intramuros

You may remember visiting Intramuros from one of your childhood field trips but exploring the old city in a different light is worth trying. Instead of appreciating the centuries-old structures and streets on foot, try booking an Intramuros Bambike tour. This tour will let you experience riding a bicycle made of bamboo and learning about Intramuros along the way. At P1,699 per person, the Intramuros Experience includes a Fort Santiago ticket, an English-speaking guide, bike and helmet rental, water refill, sunscreen, and towels. You’ll also visit iconic spots such as the Puerta Real Gardens, San Agustin Church, and Plaza San Luis. The experience takes two and a half hours and you’ll also get ice cream after!

Zambales is known for its white sand beaches and coves but if you’re not in the mood for some vitamin sea, head to the town of San Marcelino and rough it out at Mapanuepe Lake. This serene lake is known as the “New Zealand of Zambales” and we get it. The picturesque view you’ll get is truly breathtaking and looks straight out of a postcard. Note that there is no electricity so be prepared for a serious camping experience. Bring everything you’ll need and prepare for emergencies too. Most importantly, leave nothing behind – clean up so others will also have the chance to enjoy this beauty.

Try bouldering at Climb Central Manila

Put your upper body strength to the test and try bouldering or climbing at Climb Central Manila, the country’s largest indoor air-conditioned climbing facility. Don’t be scared even if you’re inexperienced. They offer an Introduction to Climbing class for both adults and kids, which includes a gear set. If you only want to try it out with the barkada for a day, go for the First Timers Day Pass at P800 each, all inclusive of unlimited climbing, registration, gear set, and safety briefing.
