Aside from the popular tuk-tuk, another Thailand ride that is unique to the rest of Asia is a songthaew. Sometimes called “red cars”, songthaews are like covered pick-up trucks with benches inside that can carry a maximum of eight passengers at once—think local jeepneys. In some areas, songthaews have signs indicating their routes, while there are those that are color-coded. You can flag one like a taxi, and you can go down by pressing the buzzer inside the cab once you’ve reached your destination.
