Jose Panganiban is the flourishing mining town of Camarines Norte named after Filipino linguist and main contributor for La Solidaridad Jose Maria Panganiban. Once, it had been called Mambulao, a word taken from mambulawan which meant “bountiful in gold” — and it truly was.
But beyond the treasures underneath, there’s much to discover in this sleepy town. You can admire the ancient Catholic Churches like the Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary and the Parish of Saint Roch which both reflect the city’s long history, or view the Jose Maria Panganiban Monument erected by the National Historical Institute and which is said to contain his remains.
Mambulao Bay is also a sight to behold. Located in the town of Daet just a short trip out of Jose Panganiban, you’ll be mesmerized by the unobstructed view of the sunset that the locals themselves are proud of having. For the more adventurous few, surfing at Bagasbas Beach is a must-do!
For those who want some fun under the sun, you can head to Calaguas in Vinzons and explore all its beautiful beaches like the pristine Mahabang Buhangin and its white sand and crystal clear waters.
Take a chance and go on a spontaneous trip down the road less traveled to this town. Vacations are definitely more enriching when exploring parts of the Philippines unknown. Watch this video and be inspired to create your unique stories in this golden town in Camarines Norte!
