Known as the Surfing Capital of Northern Philippines, San Juan, La Union is the home of various beach and surfing resorts, and it’s arguably one of the most famous destinations for quick weekend getaways before the pandemic. After closing its borders to tourists, the province is open again for tourists from NCR+ subject to strict conditions in adherence to the Department of Tourism Advisory No. 13, s. 2021.
Check your Alert Level first
It’s surf season in La Union again and you can take this as a sign to ready your list of Elyu accommodations and travel itinerary. But before making your travel plans with the barkada, check if the Alert Level in your area allows you to enter La Union first. You may refer to this chart:

What are the border entry travel requirements?
Before you head to Elyu for your much-needed getaway, make sure to prepare the following travel requirements first:
- Approved Tara Na Travel Request and QR code
- Negative RT-PCR or Philippine Red Cross Saliva Test Result issued three days prior to arrival

How to apply for a Tara Na! Tourist Pass
Tara Na is a travel portal in partnership with the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board, which allows visitors to easily view travel requirements, apply for travel passes, and more. The portal is exclusive for Northern locations like La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
Before applying for the Tourist Pass, the portal will let you enter your details to provide the exact travel requirements, depending on which region you’re coming from.
After, you may proceed with the Tourist Pass registration. Be ready to present the following requirements:
Current Address Information
- Barangay
- Municipality/City
- Province
- Zipcode
Identification
- Profile picture
- Valid Government ID (with photo)
- Selfie of you holding the valid ID
You will also be required to provide personal information, an e-mail, and a password.
