Montalban, Rizal is famous for its collection of mountains most near each other. It’s also a playground for every kind of mountaineer here. Mt. Paminitian is just one of the well-traversed mountains and for good reason. If you hike early enough you’ll be rewarded with the majestic sea of clouds a mere 2 hours from the metro.

When you’re near the top, rocks that jut out towards the open air is the perfect spot for taking photos, the ‘buwis buhay’ looking kind. The trek to the summit can take 2-3 hours so if you start at 4:30AM (which is the time that the DENR office opens and you can register), you’ll arrive at the coveted sea of clouds.

How to prepare: Since Mt. Pamitinan is characterized by muddy trails and sharp rocks and limestone formations, make sure you bring gloves with you. If you forgot to bring your own, you can buy some at the barangay before climbing.

Tours: Trail Adventours, True North Travel and Tours, or a DIY hike

Other sights to see: Wawa Dam, Mt. Hapunang-Banoi, Mt. Binacayan

MARCH: Mt. Hapunang Banoi, Rodriguez, Rizal

Kyzia spends most of her time capturing the world around her through photos, paragraphs, and playlists. She is constantly on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and a great paperback thriller to pair with it.
