Towards the end of 2017, Pantone announced Pantone 18-3838, or Ultra Violet, as 2018’s Color of the Year. In choosing the color, the company stated that “Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.” The provocative purple shade also has political undertones, with the color being associated with the feminist rights and the LGBTQ+ movement.
