This magnificent palace turned into a museum has a history that spans three centuries. Bartolomeo Rastrelli directed the construction and design of Catherine Palace from the late 1740s until the 1750s under the auspices of Empress Elizabeth who wanted the 1717 complex remodeled. It then underwent several renovations and restorations throughout the years. The main draw of the complex is the resplendent Amber Chamber.
