San Juan has gone rapid development in the last few years brought about by the popularity of surfing here. Resorts ranging from backpackers to medium range to luxury, line up the long coast of San Juan. A thriving community of local surfers here have produced some of the best in the country, many of whom have participated in various surfing competitions around the world. Hip hostels such as Vessel, Circle Hostel and Flotsam and Jetsam paved the way for the creation of a vibrant scene perfect for chilling after a day of surfing. To those wanting to learn the sport of surfing, you can study for an hour or two at Billabong Surf Camp, whose roster of seasoned surf instructors can teach you the basics of surfing.

Can’t miss surf spots includes; The Point, the Bowl and the Beach Break. Other surfing spots not far from San Juan includes: Darigayos, Bacnotan, Sunset and Car-rille.
