This city near the Volga River is more than a thousand years old and is one of the oldest cities in Russia. Its historical center contains vestiges of its heyday. You’ll see ancient churches that display the ingenuity of its designers and the faithfulness of Russians to their religion. Inside these are fetching iconostases and beautiful murals. There’s a small fee of R40 to enter one of the squares.
