Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful and important cities in Russia. It’s like one big museum where you’ll see beautiful buildings all around, palaces and churches. There are a number of UNESCO sites that go as far as its suburbs. Within the city, visit the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum where you’ll see paintings and sculptures made by the old European masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt and others. Other notables are the Peter and Paul Fortress, Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood and Saint Isaac’s Cathedral.

Don’t forget to go on a day trip to Peterhof Palace, Catherine Palace and Pavlovlsk Palace, all three of which are still in UNESCO’s heritage list. These provide you with a glimpse of how the royal family lived.
