There’s never a shortage of things to do in the city, whether the sun is beating down or it’s raining cats and dogs. In the ever sunny Manila (and neighboring cities) you can shop to your heart’s content, embrace your musical side, or do all kinds of stuff this month. Don’t let the summer heat bring you down!
Summer shopping
Spend a sunny summer in the streets of Escolta at the sixth Escolta Block Party on May 19. Manila’s historic street will once again be filled with life as booths are set up for the famous Block Market where you can buy crafts locally made. Watch out for exhibits, film premieres, and heritage tours, and during the night, a party for you and your friends.
On May 12, drop by Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery at Chino Roces from 1PM to 9PM for Market Day where local artists and crafters will be selling stickers, zines, and handmade products.
If you want to geek out more, Komiket goes to SM Southmall for Komiket South 2018. Meet and greet and buy from your favorite local comic book creators and artists. Catch them on May 19 to 20 at Buku-Buku Kafe for two days of art, stories, and geeking!
Do you want to try art materials for free? Fully Booked High Street and Greenbelt 5 will hold an Art Buffet for every Friday of May starting 3PM. You can experiment and try the different art materials to see what you can create.

Musical theaters to catch
Cinema One Originals feature film Changing Partners is originally a theater musical play before it was given a movie adaptation. If you like the film, then you’ll like the original theater musical more! Catch their shows from May 11 to 20 at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.
Heart wrenching but at the same time humorous, you will fall in love with Sa Wakas, A Pinoy Rock Musical. It’s a story about love told through the songs of Sugarfree and successfully mixes nostalgia with emotion. The performance will only be until May 27 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight.
Another nostalgia inducing 90s band will be the soundtrack to another theater musical. Resorts World Manila will be staging an all-original theater production entitled Ang Huling El Bimbo telling the story of friendship through Eraserheads songs. Ang Huling El Bimbo starts on July 20 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
All the food
Since summer and food go well together, Bonifacio High Street in Taguig is hosting a Summer Food Fair. Join them on May 26 and 27 for a fiesta in the form of a summer block party. Find the best of Manila’s local food and retail brands in the heart of BGC.
Summer sweat it out!
