Formerly known as Persia, Iran has thousands of years of history preserved within its beautiful, sprawling lands. With its rich history and culture, there are many UNESCO Heritage Sites to visit and appreciate, such as the complex of Golestan Palace in Tehran and Jame Mosque in Isfahan. You can also explore one city at a time. The country’s capital Tehran has the Golestan Palace and the beautiful Imamzadeh Saleh Mosque while the Azadi Tower looks over the metro. Isfahan (Esfahan), known for its architecture, boasts of historical Naqsh-e-Jahan Square and the intricate designs of Jameh Mosque. The city of Shiraz, known for its literary history, has plenty of attractions for tourists to explore from the colorful stained glass windows of the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque (a.k.a. Pink Mosque) to the sprawling gardens of lovely Eram Garden. Or be charmed by the city of Yazd when you explore the narrow streets of Old Town and the remnants of the Zoroastrian religion in the Fire Temple.
