A few hours away from Saint Petersburg is the “Birthplace of Russia”, Veliky Novgorod. The city is no longer as prominent as Saint Petersburg and Moscow, but it has many centuries old structures such as the Cathedral of Saint Sophia. Yaroslavl the Wise and his Son Vladimir established the church in the 11th century.
