Also known as the Blue Mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque was built to compete with another historical site, Hagia Sophia, which is located right next to the mosque. Consisting of five main domes, six minarets, and another eight secondary domes, the mosque got its moniker thanks to the 20, 000 handmade blue ceramic Iznik tiles embellished on its interiors.
