The Great Mosque of Cordoba is one mosque that’s rich with history: the mosque was originally a Roman temple, but Emir Abd al-Rahman purchased the site, turning it into an Islamic mosque. There was also a time when both Christians and Muslims shared the site, when the Visigoths turned it into a Catholic church. The mosque contains four buildings, all of which were developed by the then ruling Caliph.
