IU and Park Bo-gum’s comeback drama knows how to tug our heartstrings. While half of the season are yet to be released, the first eight episodes have made us cry and learn about life in the 1960s in South Korea. If you’re visiting the country soon and want to go to filming locations, we’ve rounded up some prominent locations on Jeju Island and other provinces:

Filming locations on Jeju Island

Gimnyeong Coast

Location: 4-3, Gimnyeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do

The haenyeo women, or female freedivers of Jeju, play an important role in Ae-Sun’s life as her mother was once one, too. They were often featured along the coast, feasting on abalone and teasing each other. This takes place along Gimnyeong Coast.

Seongsan Canola Flower Field

Location: 270 Goseong-ri Seongsan-eup Seogwipo-si Jeju-do

Jeju is known for canola flowers, and one of the best spots for picture taking is at Seongsan Canola Flower Field. This is where Gwang-sik finally asks for Ae-sun’s hand in marriage, and the same spot was featured years later when a small kid spotted the golden ring Ae-sun threw away.

Locals suggest going here from December to February to witness the flowers in full bloom.

Jeju Folk Village

Location: 631-34 Minsokhaean-ro, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do

While the village featured in the drama is a set built by the production team, you can have a similar experience by visiting the Jeju Folk Village. The village is home to Jeju’s traditional choga or thatched roof houses that are made with piled stone walls. There are over 100 traditional houses here, allowing visitors a glimpse of life in Jeju in the 1890s.

Gwandeokjeong Pavilion

Location: 19 Gwandeok-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do

Gwandeokjeong Pavilion is a must-visit for first-timers as Jeju’s oldest and most significant historical landmark. Built in 1448, the pavilion was built to train soldiers during the reign of King Sejong.

Other filming locations in South Korea

Cheongshim International Maritime Training Center

Location: 183-5 Jangsu-ro, Hwayang-myeon, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do

The first episode of the drama opens with a scene taken at a nursing home. The elderly are writing poems in an open field with a scenic view of the sea, and 70-year-old Ae-Sun is the only one without anything to write about.

In real life, Cheongshim International Maritime Training Center is a facility that provides training for the maritime industry.

Gochang Green Barley Field

Location: 150 Hagwonnongjang-gil, Gongeum-myeon, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk-do

Gochang Green Barley Field witnessed key scenes between Ae-Sun and Gwang-Sik’s relationship, especially when they held hands for the first time. If you plan on visiting this vibrant field, you can participate in the Gochang Green Barley Field Festival, which occurs in late April. It’s also the region’s most popular festival!

Daegu Gyesan Catholic Church

Location: 10 Seoseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, South Korea

The Gyesan Cathedral is one of Daegu’s main churches. In the drama, Ae-Sun and Gwang-sik get married here.

When she’s not writing, Ina’s busy curating playlists that will save her when words don’t work, reading, annoying her cat, or thinking of her next meal.
