Built upon the orders of Vir Singh Deo to commemorate Mughal Emperor Jahangir’s first visit to Orccha (father of Shah Jahan – builder of the Taj Mahal). Jahangir Mahal is considered as one of the best examples of classic Mughal Architecture. It has separate rooms for the six wives of Vir Singh Deo and the Mahārāja’s room window is directly pointed towards the diety altar of nearby Raja Ram Temple.

Despite its strategic location being surrounded by a river and the towering walls of Fort of Orccha, Jahangir would later successfully conquer it and the rest of Orccha. The notorious Mughal ruler, Aurangzeb (son of Shah Jahan) would later make an appearance at Jahangir Mahal as a young 16 year old, when he planted a Mughal flag at the topmost part of the palace.
