BOOKMARK: Be Cold Weather Ready with These Winter Travel Essentials

The cold will not bother you anyway.
by | December 04, 2024

Coming from a tropical country, Pinoys will choose to travel somewhere colder when given the chance. Who wouldn’t love to explore a destination without carrying a portable fan and changing shirts twice daily?

The time has finally come – you’ve booked and secured your dream winter trip, but how do you pack for it? Ready your lists, here’s our guide to staying warm and ready for colder weather:

Thermal clothing

You have to start strong with your winter travel wardrobe, which is all about building layers. Ensure that you’ll always be warm by investing in good thermal clothing – the base layer of your OOTD. Uniqlo has lots of options for that – whether it’s for a chilly day or harsh winter days. Their Heattech collection has shirts, leggings, socks, and even pants.

Check them out here.

Down jacket

Speaking of building layers, a down jacket adds a layer of warmth to your OOTD. Long coats are chic and finish the outfit, but they can be a bit bulky to pack. Check out packable down jackets, which won’t take up a lot of space in your luggage!

Heating packs

@allukasakura If you’re visiting Japan during the cold Winter months, then you need to make sure you save this hack! カイロ or Heat Packs are a really easy & affordable way to keep yourself warm during the winter. ⁣ ⁣ I bought mine from Family Mart for ¥54 (60c NZD). You can get different sizes too but it’s a great way to stay warm especially if you’re visiting the snow. ⁣ ⁣ Places to get カイロ (Ka-i-ro) Heat Packs in Japan:⁣ ⁣ Convenience Stores⁣ Donquijote ⁣ Pharmacy ⁣ Yodabashi Camera / Bic Camera Basically you can get them everywhere! #カイロ #japaneseheatpacks #japaninwinter #japantravelhacks #japantraveltips #japan ♬ Jazz Bossa Nova – TOKYO Lonesome Blue

Heaters won’t always be available, especially when you’re out and about during tours, so heating packs will be your best friend. You can easily get them in convenient stores in a wide variety – some you can even stick to your socks’ soles so your feet stay warm too.

Skincare

Due to the dry winter air, it’s easy to get cracked lips and skin, so pack your favorite moisturizers, face masks, hand creams, and lip balms. The last thing you want to worry about is bleeding cracks on your skin and lips, which takes away the fun of traveling!

Vitamins + Medicine

Coming from a tropical country, it’s normal for Pinoys to adjust to the cold. If you spend a whole day out, you might feel a sore throat due to the dry air, get a runny nose, catch a cold, or cough. It’s always better to come prepared with vitamins and medicine you’ve tried and tested, just in case.

Boots

We understand that everyone wants to go all out on their winter fashion, but make sure you’re still wearing weather-appropriate footwear. You don’t want to slip and slide on ice or get wet shoes! Investing in waterproof boots will keep you safe and warm – some styles come with a layer of fluffy material inside. You can also pair it with Heatteach socks.

Gloves

The cold weather is a great excuse to keep holding hands with your significant other! Kidding aside, always protect your hands with gloves, especially if you’re going to play with snow! Make sure they’re thick enough so they won’t easily get wet as well.

Scarves and beanies

Sure, your body’s warm now, but what about your neck, head, and face? Not all jackets have hoodies, so you can build that extra layer of protection against the cold with scarves, beanies, and even a fluffy muffler. There are scarves equipped with Heattech technology, too!

Insulated tumbler

Your ~emotional support~ tumbler will still be helpful even during winter. Prepare your hot beverage in your accommodation before heading out. You’ll be warm and toasty and get to save a little extra, especially if you’re working on a budget.
