Batu Caves is a limestone hill with a series of caves and cave temples in Malaysia. It’s one of the most popular Tamil shrines outside of India dedicated to Lord Murugan. In 2018, the 272 steps of the staircase leading to the iconic Hindu Temple got a facelift – and got repainted in rainbow hues. While controversial, the decision to repaint the stairs was done as part of the refurbishment to upgrade the tourist area.
