Comfort — that’s the first thing that comes into mind when we think of our moms. Mother’s Day is fast approaching and if you haven’t planned anything yet, we’ve got you covered. Here are some stunning garden restaurants within and near the Metro that would make any plantita mom swoon while having servings of comfort food:

 

Burrow Café

Aside from the lush greenery surrounding this picturesque café, the experience of going there alone is an adventure already as it is underground. Just like how Alice found Wonderland, you have to go deep into the ground to enter it – 95 steps down to be exact. Burrow Café serves seasonal menu, with Black Rice Suman à la Mode and Lechon Gising-Gising as their popular dishes. They also have a selection of pizzas and pasta, as well as vegan choices.

Antonio’s Tagaytay

Nestled in a Spanish-colonial-style house in Tagaytay, Antonio’s provides comfort both from its food and ambiance, which has become something patrons keep coming back to when in the cool city. You can book a reservation for up to two months in advance.

Antonio’s is open from Tuesday to Sunday to serve lunch and dinner. Just a reminder: guests are required to come in smart casual clothing when dining. Find more details here.

Maria Luisa’s Garden Room

Yup, it’s possible to find a quaint hideaway right in the middle of a busy central business district in Makati. Built by a group of plant lovers in 1957, Maria Luisa’s Garden Room is an exclusive café for members (and their guests) of the Makati Garden Club.  The café serves gourmet French-Scandinavian dishes that are made even better with the intimate dining experience. Club membership is only P1,200 per year!

Rustic Mornings by Isabelo Garden

If your mom’s the type to enjoy a nice brunch, Rustic Mornings by Isabelo Garden is one of the best places for this meal. Owned by Chef Portia Baluyut Magsino, Rustic Mornings started as a private restaurant in 2009 with “Isabelo Garden”, serving homegrown specialties inspired by her grandmother. In 2012, she opened Rustic Mornings and it’s become a popular breakfast place in the Metro since. Fun fact: the restaurant is actually a part of their ancestral home.

Ilustrado

For a trip back in time, visit the walled city of Intramuros to experience world-class dining at Ilustrado. Aside from its restaurant that features Hispanic-inspired interiors, Ilustrado also has a Spanish garden courtyard that would make you feel like you just traveled back to the old world while enjoying servings of house favorites such as Paella Illustrado, Lengua consetas, and Callos Madrilena.

Café Ysabel

Located in the heart of San Juan City, Café Ysabel is set in an old Spanish-Filipino home built around 1919. Since its opening in 1982, this restaurant has become one of the most romantic destinations in the metro serving Filipino and European cuisine, with an expansive menu of over 100 dishes.

Tucked in the boundary between Tagaytay and Cavite, Marcia Adams is a rustic garden restaurant that opened in 2010 to serve home-cooked Mediterranean cuisine. Inspired by Italian farmhouses in Tuscany, this secret garden in the south is worth the short drive from the city. It also doubles as a great venue for intimate weddings!

Sonya’s Garden

Surrounded by thick hibiscus shrubs, hydrangeas, and various plants, Sonya’s Garden is a go-to in Tagaytay for some heartwarming dishes. Aside from its restaurant, Sonya’s is also a popular bed and breakfast, perfect for when you plan on staying for the weekend. The produce used in their dishes is grown in-house, which you can also explore after dining.
