This ancient site in Nara, Japan has several centuries of history dating back to the time when Prince Shotoku established it in 607. Horyu-ji is one of Japan’s oldest temples and the wooden structures within its confines are some of the oldest not just in the country, but in the world. The temple complex became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the early 1990s.
